Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords

A Winter Musical Celebration

Vocal Chords Holiday Concert

Mark your calendars! “Winter Musical Celebration” will be presented by the Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords (MHVC) on Sunday, December 7th, 2:00pm at Portland High School, 95 High Street, Portland. Wrap yourself in traditional holiday music as you listen to 90 voices, directed by Samuel Tucker, and a 10-piece orchestra, directed by Alan Dougherty, serenade you. You will be treated to pieces that have a pop rock feel, bells ringing with spirit, fast swing, brilliant Venetian music by Vivaldi and playful optimism. The music is filled with texture, dynamics, layers and forces. We will be performing “Light One Candle” recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary and arranged by local music educator Jack Zaino, honoring those who fought for freedom, along with a choral medley from “Polar Express” and many other fun holiday favorites.

Community outreach is an important part of our organization's history. Our dedicated members have recently donated 13,262 pounds of food items and $23,000 to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry. They also give of their time to sing at Middlesex Health’s annual Hospice Memorial Program honoring those who have passed on in Hospice during the year. Over the years, the Vocal Chords, have awarded over $93,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Middlesex County pursuing a career in nursing or music, thanks to your support and the generosity of our dedicated members.

Ridgefield Chorale

Holiday Pops Concert

Come and enjoy a concert of contemporary songs of the season with The Ridgefield Chorale. Casual, charming and fun, this is an afternoon of seasonal favorites for all ages.

Concert proceeds benefit Community Food Rescue in Danbury. CFR rescues food at local supermarkets/retail stores every day of the week, with two vehicles that rescue and deliver to local food pantries on the day of their pantry distribution. CFR assists several agencies directly from their food hub – Dorothy Day, RVNA, Renewal House, Center for Empowerment, and two local shelters to name a few. CFR makes home deliveries to clients who are homebound or unable to get to CAAWC’s weekly drive-up pantry on Thursdays. CFR does five mobile pantries every month at low-income senior housing complexes, bringing food to them and allowing them to shop for what they need.

Take Note! a cappella ensemble concert to benefit the Covenant Soup Kitchen

A concert of heart-warming seasonal a cappella music.

Take Note! is a 20-voice a cappella ensemble based in Mansfield, and is comprised of select, talented, local singers from diverse backgrounds who enjoy challenging, varied musical styles. Under the artistic direction of Linda Tracy, Take Note! performs without charge for the benefit of other nonprofit organizations.

The ensemble’s mission statement expresses its vision well: “Through performances in support of charitable endeavors, we are raising spirits, raising voices, raising hope.”

Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords

Vocal Chords seek alto, tenor and bass voices

The MIDDLESEX HOSPITAL VOCAL CHORDS (MHVC), directed by Samuel Tucker and accompanied by Alan Dougherty's 10-piece orchestra, are searching for enthusiastic men and women to join their expanding alto, tenor and bass sections. No auditions or prior experience are required—just a genuine passion for singing and a commitment to becoming part of the Vocal Chord family. Rehearsals start on Tuesday, January 20th, from 6:45 to 9:00 PM at St. Francis Church’s Msgr. Fox Parish Hall, 10 Elm St., Middletown, CT, as we prepare for our spring concert on Saturday, May 2nd at Portland High School. New members may join until February 3rd.

For 36 years, this community-focused group has delighted audiences with energetic concerts featuring a wide range of musical styles. Their repertoire includes hits from past and present, along with classical and patriotic selections, all supporting our mission to relieve stress, lift spirits and heal souls with music. Our 90 current members come from central and southern Connecticut and represent diverse backgrounds. What unites us is our shared love for singing. You do not need any affiliation with Middlesex Health to become a member.

Concert proceeds and funds from our Annual Patron Drive go back to the community through scholarships awarded to Middlesex County seniors who plan to study nursing or music. So far, the Vocal Chords have contributed $89,500 to local students, thanks to our dedicated supporters and members.

Cappella Cantorum

Handel's 'Messiah' Sing or Listen at The Kate

Immerse Yourself in the Sounds of the Season!

This popular community event, sponsored by Cappella Cantorum, will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (‘The Kate’), 300 Main Street, Old Saybrook, CT.

Sit down front and sing with hundreds of other talented area vocalists, or sit in back and listen. All are welcome to participate as either singers or listeners. Bring your own Messiah score if you have it, or copies will be available on loan for the event ($10 deposit, returned when you bring the score back).

Singers should arrive and be seated in voice sections by 1:30pm for warmup and a short rehearsal. The performance begins at 2pm, and will include Messiah Part I (the "Christmas section") plus the Hallelujah Chorus.
